The anime adaptation of the popular video game is being handled by A-1 Pictures, the anime studio behind the game developer Hideo Kojima’s new favorite series, Lycoris recoil
During the broadcast, Game Director Yoko Taro said, appears as a disembodied headsheds some light on the meaning of the anime’s code-like name, saying it’s referring to the fact that the show’s plot will differ from that of the 2017 video game.
“The anime title has the addition ‘Version 1.1a“, because the title Nier: Automata was a story that we made as a game, so it wouldn’t be an interesting story for an anime to copy it as is,” Taro said during the broadcast. “So I brought up the idea of changing things.”
NieR:Automata Ver1.1a‘s Director Ryouji Masuyama recalled that an executive at anime production company Aniplex was surprised by Taro’s switcheroo narrative idea. Apparently, Taro responded by saying, out of concern for fans, “We want to make as few changes as possible,” they said Kidney/Drakenguard Believers can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that the anime won’t go full stage play or Final Fantasy XIV: Dark Apocolypse. It probably won’t add an entirely new storyline to the universe’s already packed lore, so you can put your yarn and corkboard away… for now.
For those wondering if Nier: Automata‘s banging soundtrack will also feature in emotionally devastating scenes in the anime, fear not because the game’s composer, Keiichi Okabeand his music production studio Monaca will also handle the music for the anime.
