While The golden age of video games backed by Kickstarter is long goneBut that doesn’t mean there aren’t more success stories on the platform. And a big event this month is Elina roguelike RPG from Japan that tries to make dreams come true that fans have had for 15 years and counting.
Elin is the prequel to a 2006 game titled The onewhich is described on Elin’s page as follows:
Elona was a roguelike game developed by a Japanese indie developer normal and published in 2006. Its chaotic gameplay and world that stimulated the player’s imagination made the game popular and it has been translated by volunteers in many countries. Several “variants“Derivatives from the original Elona were also created after the source code was released. Elona and its variants continue to enjoy great popularity and community around the world more than 15 years after their initial release.
The original creator Noa now has returned (with some help) deliver Elinwhich is basically the culmination of years of playing newer open world games Minecraft
So Elin will be a roguelike RPG in the same style as The oneonly now there will be one much more stuff on the fringes, from detailed base building to life sim affairs. And boy does fans of the first game want that, because this game is currently beating all Kickstarter expectations.
At the time of publication Over $270,000 was raisedwhich is not the case sound Given the million-dollar projects the platform is famous for, that’s a lot, but given Elins Scale – originally only asked for $38,000 just so Noa could make it – that is charges.
It’s also interesting that while the original game was a huge hit in Japan, the attention this prequel is getting is helping spread the word internationally as well. Personally, I hadn’t heard anything Elonas name mentioned in Yearsbut the base building stuff here seems like something I would do very in.
