After a month, some players accidentally did Play the older version of new games on your PS5Sony’s next-gen console now has a feature that triggers an alert when trying to load the PS4 version of a PS5 game.
Originally discovered by VGCThe console will now ask players to confirm the game version before loading a game for which both the latest and the next generation are available. “You are about to play the PS4 version of this game,” the command prompt says. “Would you like to switch to the PS5 version?”
I received the message while playing the PS4 versions of Destiny 2, but it doesn’t always seem to show up. For example, I didn’t get the message while playing the PS4 version of Watch Dogs Legion until i manually went to install the updated PS5 version. Only then did the console warn me about accidentally playing the older version, and even then it didn’t ask me to delete it from the console to free up disk space or avoid additional problems in the future.
Still, it’s a welcome band-aid for an issue the PS5 has dealt with since launch. especially with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. While Smart Delivery on the Xbox Series X / S made transferring stored data and automatically installing and loading the correct version of a game seamless for the console it’s being played on, the whole process is much more complicated on the PS5. Though a little less after this newest feature was added.
