The new update doesn't change anything fundamental The Sims 3. In fact, it doesn't change The Sims 3 at all. Instead, the update fixes an issue that prevented players using computers with 12th generation Intel processors from playing the game. For players with these CPUs, the game would crash upon startup. A prominent one in 2022 The Sims 3 Modder, LazyDuchess, fixed the issue with their own modified patch. Electronic Arts' update on Tuesday is the official fix for EA App Launcher users. Steam players don't appear to have received the update.
Naturally, The Sims 3 Community is a bit reluctant about the patch; They've spent more than a decade gathering modded and scripted content, and they're worried that an official, forced patch could mess everything up. A community member has created detailed instructions for the updateincluding how not to update your game if you want to prevent this. Mods appear to be safe, said Reddit user CowardlyCandy.
Polygon has reached out to Electronic Arts for comment.
