As shown by Kate Bishop, Hawk Eye, and Black Panther, the best part of the new characters that are coming to us Marvel’s Avengers are the story missions. These introduce us to the newbies, give us an insight into their background and their motivations and offer a whole range of original content about an underweight game. Spider-Man, the exclusive character that PlayStation owners have been waiting for over a year, arrives with no story missions.

Revealed in IGN‘s exclusive practical previewInstead of being introduced to the game via a solo story arc, Spider-Man is suddenly there doing his spider thing. Instead of a series of narrative missions, Peter Parker’s story unfolds through a series of audio logs, along with some illustrated cutscenes that are unlocked as players complete character-specific challenges recently added to existing ones avenger‘s multiplayer missions.

According to gameplay director Philippe Therien in conversation with IGN, Crystal Dynamics decided against creating Spidey story missions to focus on the new raid event that will be released on all platforms alongside Spider-Man on November 30th, much of our energy for the Klaw raid, who comes towards us at the same time. “

From a development perspective, it makes a certain amount of sense. Why spend a lot of time on free content that Sony, Xbox and PC gamers cannot play due to nonsensical deals with Spidey owners? However, as someone who picked the PlayStation version of the game specifically for the promise of hot Spider-Man action, this is a pretty big disappointment. Come on Crystal Dynamics, we’ve been waiting for this over a year?

Spider-Man and the Discordant Sound Raid comes in Marvel’s Avengers next week. With no new characters announced beyond Spidey and the game’s ongoing problems with keeping players hooked, this could be the end of the line for Square Enix least entertaining Marvel game.
