As was reported at the time, the creators of the commercial were inspired by an Amazon review that was left under the game’s predecessor. breath of the wild. Written by a Japanese user, it told the story of a “working adult” who spends his days “just wondering why I’m still alive.”
I am a working adult, so-called businessman. The rush of commuters, the submission to customers and superiors, the need to train junior staff and many other things bother me and I end up working overtime every day. Even the mountain that I see on the way to work and whose name I don’t even know irritates me. When I get home I’m dizzy and don’t have the energy to eat, so I just drink alcohol and sleep. If I have time to play I should be attending seminars or looking for a spouse, which makes me more impatient than I should be.
I went to buy alcohol because I ran out of alcohol and saw the Switch in stores selling out. Then I remembered the day. When I was a kid and really got into Mario 64, my friend said, “It’s lame to play Mario these days!” It’s the PlayStation era!” and I felt embarrassed. At the time, I didn’t want my boyfriend to dislike me, so I also remember replying, “Yes, you’re right. Mario is old-fashioned!”
The beauty of FF7 at the time and the shock of hearing the CD on TV…the youngest kids may not understand these feelings. It was so attractive and innovative for children back then.
I’m still not sure why I picked up the Switch back then. I just held a beer in one hand and bought the console and Zelda, thinking I might sell it if it was boring.
Yesterday, on my day at work, I looked out the train window at a mountain I didn’t even know the name of and thought, “Looks like I could climb it.” At that moment, I burst into tears and couldn’t stop. The businessmen of the same age sitting next to me must have thought, “What the hell is this guy?”
I would recommend it to all my business colleagues who are pressed for time and struggling to maintain the status quo day in and day out even if you hate everyone. Don’t say it’s just a game. We were born in the golden age of video games.
It touches me that I am aware of many things too late that I was not aware of due to the hectic pace of my own life. I should have been more childish.
The 5 star reviews are all good so I have nothing to talk about right now. This Zelda gives me the “challenge and reward” I forgot. I can freely explore the world without maps, it is an exciting adventure experience.
hp I want to say thank you to this Zelda and I want to apologize to the Mario 64 development team and to Nintendo. I want to apologize for the lies I told that day by saying that Mario 64 was dated even though I loved it. I’m genuinely excited for Mario Odyssey to come out this winter.
Addendum May 7th: After 180 hours of gameplay I had all “Memories Restored” and saw the ending. First of all, I want to thank all the people who read my horrible, long, overloaded and embarrassing review which was written emotionally. I’d also like to thank everyone who rated it helpful, not just for reading. Even in my job, I’ve never been appreciated by so many people. I really enjoyed the 180 hours I spent walking around Hyrule. I not only want to thank Nintendo but also all the Zelda fans who have continued to support Zelda. Thank you for a great adventure.
Despite all the similarities between this man’s story and the commercial – the part where he apologizes for abandoning Mario in the face of a PlayStation ad campaign – I did something similar sonic 3 when my friends played WipeOut – a hit hard.
