From 1991 to 2021, Vicarious Visions was the name of a studio that made a bunch of pretty cool licensed games, but which the lover had also contributed Tony Hawk professional skater series. Then Activision stepped in and made some changes.
In January 2021 with only released a remake of Tony Hawk Pro Skaters 1+2, Activision informed the developers were merged into Blizzard
I said at the time: “That sucks!”but it even sucks more now because of the claims – from someone who would know – that the developers had planned to repeat the remake treatment with Tony Hawk Pro Skaters 3+4.
On a recent stream from Neversoft and Vicarious Veteran andyTHPS Tony Hawk himself was there for an interview and casually dropped the fact, until the moment of THPS 1+2 Release, “the plan” was then to go ahead and release a remastered bundle THPS 3+4
I mean, that was the plan, you know, even up to the release date of [THPS1+2] We went 3+4 and then Vicarious kind of got absorbed and they looked for other developers and then it was over.
We have no idea how far this plan had progressed. Maybe THPS 3+4 was nothing more than a bullet point on a whiteboard, something the team wanted to start with next but never got the chance (although we reached out to Activision to see if they could provide more information). So we also have no idea how much Activision searched for “other developers” (none of whom seemed to be as “trusted” as Vicarious, even when asked to come up with ideas for one Tony Hawk
