The vulva saga continues. After my city broke the news that CDPR had added more realistic genitalia to some of the women The witcher 3 with its next-gen updatethen broke the news that this realistic genitals were removed as their addition was “unintentional”, It now appears that the mod itself was used by CDPR without permission (NSFW warning).
Vaginas for everyone is an old Nexus Mods mod made for the original PC version of The witcher 3. It does what the name suggests: adds realistic vulva and pubic hair to many of the female NPCs, including those who never explicitly show frontal nudity in the game. After examining how the genitals are represented in the mod and comparing them to those in the next-gen version of The witcher 3I reached out to the creator of the mod to confirm if his creation is indeed one of the fan-made mods that CDPR had bragged about including in the next-gen update.
Although the mod in question has two different pubic hair options, the runway version looks almost identical to the genitals seen on the next-gen Crones witcher 3 Update, down to the dusting of soft pubic hair outside the runway and labia arrangement.
According to the modder who just recently replied to my DM about Nexus Mods after seeing my city‘s story, CDPR “used [their] mod” but “[they] didn’t know and they didn’t ask [them] for permission.” I replied asking for their contact information for more details and also reached out to CDPR for comment, but received no response from either of them at the time of publication.
It’s unclear how the modder in question could confirm whether or not the studio used their mod, but given how similar they look and CDPR’s own statement, it’s certainly possible. In response to a question about the inclusion of the more realistic genitals in the updated game, CDPR said my city
G/O Media may receive a commission
The studio then confirmed that it would be removing the genitals from the update, writing, “These textures should not be present in the release version of the game.”
Just before the free witcher 3 update released last year, CDPR published a list of 71 Mods that would still work with the updated version of the game (including different hairstyles for Geralt, a no fall damage mod and a gore mod), which brought 4K textures and a 60fps performance mode to the popular RPG. The team also confirmed that they would be adding fan-made mods. The The Vaginas for Everyone mod is not listed in the table or as one of the included mods.
Interestingly, the same forum post listing the mods that will work with the updated game states:
Also, we are including several popular mods in the update (they will be available depending on the platform). We’ve obtained their creators’ permissions, refunded them, and they will appear in the updated game’s credits. The mods have been overhauled and the assets tweaked as needed and the game adjusted to run with it. There was even one case where a developer got so engrossed in tinkering with inserting a mod that they ended up just re-creating that particular aspect of the game. So in a way, the game already has some mods in it.
So if this mod was actually included in The witcher 3 Next-gen update without the modder’s permission (or without any refund whatsoever), then CDPR may have a whole different problem ahead…
