Now speculation is running on the notion that Nintendo UK’s specific reason for not streaming today’s showcase might have been the title for it breath of the wildSuccessor: Tears of the Kingdom. As the whole world was informed of the death of a person with vital connection to a bloody history of imperialism and colonialism, zelda Fans had to wait until the end of today’s Nintendo Direct presentation for more information on the upcoming sequel to the critically acclaimed 2017 breath of the wild. The trailer for the game featured nice graphics, gameplay hints and, for the first time, the actual title. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It is precisely this title that leads many down the path of speculation, and wonders if the name might have struck a sour note with those mourning last week’s memory that, despite what they would have us believe, kings are mere mortals.
Tears of the Kingdom was Nintendo’s “One More Thing” today, and it wasn’t long before Twitter was hosting a host of people wonder around a possible connection between the recent death of the Queen and Nintendo’s decision not to stream the event through its UK channel. Video game essayist Chris Franklin even outlined a hypothetical scenario of the decision-making process:
