The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners wowed the VR world with its intense physics-based combat, terrifying hordes of undead, and immersive survival gameplay. Its first major update, The Meatgrinder, brought a new gameplay difficulty, wave-based survival mode The Trial, and hours of replayable action to kill walkers. However, for those looking for a way to continue their adventure in the main campaign, the wait is almost over. Although delayed for a while, The Walking Dead Saints & Sinners’ next free update launches on September 23, and with it new missions, new threats, and a new mystery to uncover.
As Mark Domowicz, Project Director at Skydance Interactive, describes the update,“I like to think of Aftershocks as a little ‘Thank you’ to the players who have supported us since the game was released and as we’ve grown. These are the bonus missions, the end-game content designed to surprise, delight and challenge even our most die-hard fans. And, it’s a little appetizer for bigger things to come!
To prepare you for that “thank you,” we’ve got five tips that will give you an edge in tackling these challenges and increasing your chances of finding the Stash Leftovers.
1. Expect the unexpected
As all Aftershocks missions take place after the main story is completed, the tasks you take on will be fully geared towards well-trained survivors ready for an extra challenge. Old playgrounds will be revived in unexpected and deadlier ways, and no mission will play out the same. Newly guarded areas, surprise death squads, hungry walkers, and death traps will spawn where you least expect them, so don’t go into a mission relying on your previous map knowledge.
2. Watch your steps
Speaking of traps, one of the first new things you will need to watch out for are tripwire bombs that are set up in your path during certain missions. Connected to propane tanks, these deadly setups will shatter you if you accidentally cross paths with one. Going slow and triggering the propane tanks from a distance is one method of dealing with it, but consider killing two birds with one stone and leading walkers into the traps as well. Just try to get out of the area before the sound attracts more undead.
3. Spend your supplies and equip yourself well
You’ve found your first reserve cache, looted it for its full value, and successfully returned to your base, but what are you going to do with all those resources? Our advice is not to be stingy and start tinkering as much as you can. You never know what kind of challenge awaits you on the next mission, so it’s best to stock up on all the possibilities. Melee weapons and arrows for stealth infiltration, powerful guns for impromptu shootouts, bombs and noise generators to keep walkers away, and plenty of bandages and medicine when you get caught in the wrong place. If there are any upgrades that you’ve always postponed, it’s a good idea to take care of those as well. Just make sure you have enough room in your backpack for the next reserve cache.
4. The cache may not be all
Each of the missions will have you following clues to uncover a hidden stash cache, but just because you found the chest doesn’t mean you found the real treasure. Tower Soldiers and Salvaged Soldiers search for these supplies, and often they will have found them before you arrive, taking valuables elsewhere on the map. Make sure to read every note you discover and follow the clues to find where the real mass of goodies might have gone. Each cache comes with at least one piece of military memorabilia, if you can find it then you’ve probably reached the end of the trail.
5. Pay attention to what follows
Aftershocks is just a small part of what we have planned for Saints & Sinners, and is in fact just the first taste of the new content planned for the game. Explore the lines to its fullest and you might get a glimpse of what’s to come for the tourist and all of post-apocalyptic New Orleans. Just like with new missions, returning to old places with a new perspective can reveal more than you might think.
