Cheating has been a problem in Call of Duty: Warzone practically since its launch. Many fans were hoping that this issue would have been resolved when the Ricochet anti-cheat system was released, but unfortunately this does not appear to be the case.
Call of Duty: Warzone cheaters have gotten so sassy recently that they have openly mocked the game on their usernames. Activision’s Ricochet anti-cheat system has certainly reduced the number of cheats found in the game, but it appears that some cheaters have been able to bypass the system.
Call of Duty: Warzone’s anti-cheat Ricochet got off to a good start. All 50,000 cheaters were banned the first day the system was implemented. Cheats who were able to stick around longer than received are now doing their best to poke fun at Activision and Raven Software. Players have reported seeing usernames such as “NiceAnticheat,” “ActivisionLOL,” “@YesImHacking,” and “ITz-NoT-LUCK.” Reddit user JimShirls, who drew attention to the cheats’ usernames, stated that he noticed that the squad the users belonged to could rack up around 70 kills. This would be almost impossible without the use of cheats.
In October, Activision ran into trouble after Ricochet’s kernel driver code leaked online. Many fans were concerned this would render the Ricochet anti-cheat system useless, but Activision was quick to dispel this. The company stated that the leaked code was a preliminary version and that the final version would be different at launch. The fact that some cheaters have been able to bypass the system can cause fans to speculate whether or not this was the case.
Unfortunately, getting rid of the cheats is completely impossible, although this is not due to a lack of attempts on the part of Activision. In November, Activision even threatened a scam company with legal action. This caused Golden Gun to even shut down its official website and replace it with a notice stating “ongoing legal matters with Activision.”
Activision has made great progress so far in removing cheats from Call of Duty: Warzone, however the company still has a way to go before players are happy with the anti-cheat systems in place. The best thing you can do as a Call of Duty: Warzone player right now is to inform any player you suspect of cheating to help the company deal with the mammoth task.
Call of Duty: Warzone is now available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
