That’s right, Tetris fans, the wait is almost over. In July, all Tetris Effect owners will have the opportunity to download a free update that will transform their game into (dum dum daaaa!) Tetris Effect: Connected!
What does this mean exactly? Well, a bunch of awesome local and online multiplayer modes, mostly, but also a lot of other new features, some of which we’re announcing today, here for the first time. Read on to find out more, including your chance to participate in the beta test!
(As you read, just remember: All the following modes are fully playable on a standard screen, or optional on PS VR — highly recommended if you’ve never tried it! And while Tetris Effect is a dedicated title for the PlayStation 4, everything is of course also playable on PlayStation 5 via backward compatibility.)
Okay! First, a quick introduction to our multiplayer modes:
Bound
Form a team of three players to try and defeat the AI-controlled bosses (or player-controlled bosses, during the 24 hour full moon event every weekend) – connect your dice as you all enter in the area and clear the lines together to deal massive damage.
Zone battle
Head-to-head competition played with the standard settings of the Tetris effect, with the key to victory being the skillful use of the Time Stopping Zone mechanic. This mode is a great way to test the skills you’ve learned in single player mode.
Score attack
Another head-to-head competition played with the standard Tetris effect settings, only here no line attacks are traded. If your score is higher than your opponent’s at the end of both games, you win. Think of it as a “Solo Competitive Tetris”.
Classic score attack
A head-to-head scoring attack competition played using old-fashioned Tetris settings, so no hard drops, no ability to hold a Tetrimino, only one Tetrimino shown in the next queue , the Tetriminos turn a little differently – they lock up immediately when they touch a surface, etc. This ruthless version of Tetris is used for professional competitions such as the annual Classic Tetris World Championship.
It looks nice? It’s getting better – check out these Features added, new for all versions of the game with this update:
Cross-platform play
Invite PlayStation friends to multiplayer matches straight away as always, or share the alphanumeric four-digit Room ID to challenge your friends on the platform they’re playing on! (If you’re a streamer and want to keep uninvited guests out, don’t worry, you can easily choose to hide your Room ID in the UI). And unless you opt out through the options, ranked matches will also attract players from all platforms, all over the world, for a larger player base and a better chance of lining up with an opponent close to yours. competence level.
Spectator mode
Only available in friend matches, play sessions can include between four to six (depending on play mode) spectators who can watch and even emote in real time (via the right stick) throughout the action.
PAL speed
(Classic Score Attack Mode, Friendly and Local Matches Only)
This Classic Score Attack mode option recreates aspects of the beloved European version of the old 8-bit game – pieces move slightly faster left and right, the kill screen reaches level 19 ( compared to level 29 in the NTSC version), and other nostalgic details are all included.
Slow speed
(Zone combat mode, friendly and local matches only)
This aptly named option plays slower due to the increased entry delay (i.e. the time between when one Tetrimino locks in place and when the next enters the Matrix) and slightly longer movements. slow tetrimino. This means a whole new challenge for Zone Battle pros, who now have to use a completely different strategy as they can no longer rely solely on raw fall speed.
Sounds so good that you can’t wait for the full release at the end of July? Well you are in luck. All owners of the current version of Tetris Effect will be able to download a beta version of Tetris Effect: Connected for free. Come help us resolve issues and bugs, starting June 23, 8 p.m. PDT / June 24, 3 a.m. UTC / June 24, 12 p.m. JST.
(Look for Tetris Effect: Connected Beta Test on PlayStation Store to download it on PS4. The beta will be available to all Tetris Effect owners until July 5 at 11:59 pm PDT; a PlayStation Plus subscription is required to play any online multiplayer mode in the beta and final versions of the game; Finally, please note that progress made in the beta will not carry over to the main game.)
