Hello everyone! This is Masayoshi Soken, the main composer of Final Fantasy XVI. People often have the impression that composers only think about music, but I’m actually a gamer through and through. Although I talk a lot about music, to be honest, I like talking about video games more than music. I am an old man who is a gamer from head to toe.
Now, we composed the music for this title with the idea of going straight to the heart of the dark fantasy genre. I think a lot of people would agree with me, but I think music is an essential part of the “Final Fantasy” gaming experience.
We have composed a lot of game music that will stir players’ hearts and enrich their gaming experience to the fullest this time around as well. FFXVI is full of these kinds of tracks, so I would be very happy if other players could try the game. If you plan to play FFXVI, enjoy it and crank up the volume a little louder than usual!
1. Land of the Eikons
This is the very first track that plays when you launch FFXVI.
When you launch a “Final Fantasy” game, you would want the Prelude to play first, right? But tracks with major key progressions, like traditional preludes, didn’t fit the FFXVI universe at all… That’s why we transposed this track to minor key and arranged it to represent more faithfully the universe of FFXVI. .
2. The Lion and the Hare – The Nysa Parade
This track also plays at the start of the game. In order for players to audibly recognize early on that they are playing a Final Fantasy game, we have arranged the Prelude melody for this track.
The arrangement of this track changes interactively in-game depending on the situation, but due to the constraints of a soundtrack, the track included in it has separate arrangements split between the first half and the second half.
3. Sail the forbidden seas
This track plays during head-to-head battles with Dominants. FFXVI has many battle tracks, but did you notice that all the standard battle tracks share the same melody?? When you listen carefully to the melody of this track, you will see that it is the same melody as the track you hear when fighting standard monsters in the field..!
FFXVI required a huge number of tracks, but if we had composed a large number of tracks without thinking, we would have ended up with a large variation of unique melodies, and there was a risk that the game’s music lacked overall consistency because of That.
To solve this problem, we composed melodies that would be used in iconic elements of the games, such as characters and regions, and arranged them for each situation. By doing this, we were able to avoid having various melodies scattered all over the place.
4. Madam
Building on what I just talked about for the third track, this track is an arrangement of “Jill’s Theme” that was specially composed to fit a certain cutscene.
Now you might ask, “So what’s Jill’s theme?”. To answer your question, his theme is a track called “My Star”. This track is featured in the FFXVI soundtrack, so be sure to grab it if you’re interested…! Oh no! I just released a blatant ad!
5. find the flame
When you listen to this track as one piece of music, there are no ups and downs, and it’s a bit of a childish track that goes straight from start to finish. That being said, this track is supposed to go “Bang!” during an in-game situation, where he emits a “Full Throttle!! Press the Mushroom!!” atmosphere. So this track was intentionally designed to be that way.
Anyone who has played FFXVI to some extent should be pumped up hearing this tune.
Please listen to it when you want to recharge and fuel yourself through work, school, housework, etc.
However, be careful not to push too hard on the accelerator when driving…

Needless to say, we worked hard to compose the tracks for FFXVI and made sure they were suitable for the game. Listening to the music alone before playing the game is fine, but I’m sure you’ll be able to. enjoy a hundred times more if you listened to them after playing the game because they were specially designed for FFXVI.
It’s all about me! Please play and enjoy FFXVI.
And if you end up loving the music, consider bringing the music of FFXVI into your daily life and let your thoughts flow into the world of FFXVI anytime, anywhere.
