IO Interactive teases the reveal of a new location for its upcoming Hitman 3, but fans will have to wait to find out more later this week.
Hitman 3 from IO Interactive is coming to current and next-gen consoles early next year, including a cloud-based version of Hitman 3 on Switch. The developer promises a “globetrotting adventure” to conclude its World of Assassination trilogy on the Hitman 3 website, with players able to import all the locations of the first two entries at no additional cost.
Despite this additional focus on carrying the progress of its predecessors, Hitman 3 will have an entirely new collection of maps and scenarios. One of those new locations will be revealed tomorrow, November 24, at 6:00 am PT on Hitman’s official YouTube account. A premiere slot for the video, titled “Under the Hood,” is currently available for fans to set reminders to attend, but keep everything that will be shown a secret.
Most of the fans you can get by writing these lines is a thumbnail image with Agent 47 standing in front of neon signs displaying Chinese text. Some in the video chat believe that Hong Kong may be a likely option to join Hitman 3’s roster, which already includes England, but the description only says the new location is “[CENSURADO]”. It also suggests that gamers will be able to better see the studio’s new Glacier engine, hence the video’s title.
Fans will have to wait until tomorrow to get all the details, and there are likely a lot of people interested in finding out more about the upcoming title. Earlier this month, IO Interactive announced that the Hitman series sold 70 million copies in its 20 years of life, making it a definitive franchise to launch a new entry in the early months of the latest generation of consoles.
The success of the series has also provided IO Interactive with the opportunity to venture into other major projects. Last Thursday, it was announced that IO Interactive is working on a James Bond game tentatively called Project 007, which will serve as “the first James Bond origin story.” Given his experience with murder and espionage thus far, this seems like a match made in heaven.
However, there are currently no planned announcements for Project 007 on the horizon. Those who are hoping for that will have to meet Hitman 3 in the meantime, and hopefully what’s shown tomorrow is a good case for the game. Hitman 3 will feature a virtual reality game prominently, and have a solid environment to showcase that it could work wonders in the future.
Hitman 3 will be released on January 20, 2021 for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
