Hi everyone, I’m Jehanne Rousseau, CEO and Senior Editor at Spiders, here to give you some tips if this is your first time getting into GreedFall, or if you are returning to Teer Fradee to discover a new area full of intrigue in The De Vespe Conspiracy, our brand new expansion released on June 30th. For those of you on PS5, we’re also releasing GreedFall and GreedFall: Gold Edition – including the base game and the new expansion – bringing 4K UHD resolution, improved performance, and loading speed. The de Vespe Conspiracy is a full story arc with player choice and an epic conclusion, featuring new characters, enemies, gear, and areas to explore. We can’t wait for you to sink your teeth into this all-new journey.
Without further ado, here are seven key things to know for your trip to GreedFall and its DLC.
Play your way
GreedFall is first and foremost a free-form RPG experience. Besides your last name, everything is customizable, including your gender, appearance, starting talents and skills. As you venture deeper into the island and its network of quests and scenarios, unlock over 80 skills to combine to create your playstyle. Choose to specialize in weapons for melee combat, magic as deadly as it is varied, or even the traps to control the battlefield. Your talents also affect how you engage with the island, whether through diplomacy, crafting, or your ability to find treasures in the wild.
Exploration is (again) the key
Teer Fradee Island is full of wild nature and different environments to explore. Cities, forests, mountains, and now an ancient volcanic land in the DLC, all offer their fair share of characters, tribes, quests, creatures, and intrigue. Don’t be afraid to embrace your adventurer’s spirit and head out into the wilderness to find gear, loot, magical upgrades, and all kinds of surprises.
Three is the party
As you progress through the story, up to five companions will be allowed to join you on your journey. However, only two of them can be in your party at a time. Choose wisely as each of them has their own archetypal style, ties to specific factions, opinions, and therefore will have a different impact on combat and diplomacy. Experiment and work to develop your relationship with them, because who knows, the first friendships could become something else entirely. Also discover the traditions of your companions in hidden documents scattered throughout the DLC region.
In nature, keep your eyes (and ears) open
As you travel through the different regions of Teer Fradee, learn to recognize the creatures and tribes that may pose a threat to your party, and plan accordingly. In the De Vespe extension for example, a previously volcanic area is now home to a species of ferocious predators: the Egsregatt. This feline creature is as stealthy as it is deadly, able to pounce on its victims from great distances, or even fall on them from tall trees. Even if no Egsregatt is in sight, don’t assume that your party can let their guard down.
New difficulty setting: Discovery
In GreedFall, you can change the difficulty level at any time, ranging from a hardcore, stat-rich RPG experience to the new Discovery Mode that lets you enjoy the adventure without having to develop your skills and equipment. character. Your character instantly gains resistances and increased damage stats, becoming nearly invincible and able to take out the majority of enemies with ease. Perfect for those who wish to experience the adventure without constraints.
Be prepared against Aurelia’s Spadassins
In the story arc of the DLC, you will have to face the personal bodyguards of a new character: the Spadassins. These formidable enemies have unique abilities that involve smoke screens, magical movement, and poison. They will never fight fairly and will need a sharp wit and even sharper fighting skills to be defeated. Think twice before engaging them in battle. If you do manage to defeat them, however, you might come across a range of unique new armor and weapons to craft and discover, including some themed around the Spadassins and the De Vespe family.
Lots of choices, many endings
On Teer Fradee, the factional conflicts are neither unusual nor new, constantly threatening the native clans who lived in harmony, undisturbed. The diplomatic game is affected by faith, economics and even culture. Depending on your talent choices, different actions and quests will have different outcomes, resulting in multiple possible endings for the main game experience, and two very different ones in the DLC.
We hope these few tips will be of use to new and old GreedFall players alike. We are delighted to welcome you back to the mysterious world of GreedFall, enhanced for PlayStation 5 with a free upgrade and save migration for existing PS4 owners. The upgraded Gold Edition is also enhanced with improved visuals, resolution and performance, and includes The De Vespe Conspiracy expansion. For existing GreedFall owners, the expansion is also available as a standalone purchase. Meet at Teer Fradee on June 30.
