Hi, my name is Gareth Damian Martin and I’m the solo developer of Citizen Sleeper, one of the most beloved indie games of 2022 coming to PS4 and PS5 on March 31st. It’s been a wild ride since the release last May, and I’ve been blown away by the support, positive press, and award nominations. As a longtime PlayStation gamer, I’m so happy to finally be able to bring the game, with all of its DLC, to both PS4 and PS5.
Complete and extended
Since its release, Citizen Sleeper has only grown and continues on that trajectory with a three-episode DLC series that expands on the world and its stories. The first episode, Flux, saw a flotilla of refugees arrive at the game’s ring-shaped space station, Erlin’s Eye. In episode 2, Refuge, a new threat to the station’s future was revealed. The PlayStation version will launch alongside the third and final installment, Purge, which completes the story of the flotilla and the larger game. This means that players starting on March 31 will have the full game and all of its DLC available to them from the start.
Rolls and roles
But what do you get yourself into if you decide to build a life on Erlin’s Eye? Citizen Sleeper is a story-driven sci-fi RPG, but it’s unlike anything you’ve played before. Inspired by tabletop role-playing games, with each “cycle” you’ll roll your dice, then decide how best to use them.
Whether it’s switching bars for a few extra tokens or investigating a resort-wide conspiracy, everything in the game uses dice to determine its outcome. The result is a vast world filled with varied paths and endings, and a multitude of characters to encounter. You’ll have to think carefully about what dice you use for what, and deal with the results of unlucky rolls and tough decisions.
allies and adversaries
Character design is a big part of what players have fallen in love with in Citizen Sleeper. To create the diverse cast of scavengers, bartenders, chefs, mercenaries and more, I worked with French comic artist Guillaume Singellin. Guillaume’s art brings a nice human touch to the sometimes melancholic and austere world of Citizen Sleeper, and you’ll be able to choose which of the captivating characters you want to spend your time with.
That’s what Citizen Sleeper is all about: building life and community in a sci-fi world that feels human and emotionally impactful. I hope you give it a try on March 31 and join the 500,000+ who have already made their living on The Eye.
