The world of animated horror prepares for a new look with the THREE series.
A story that takes us deep into the folklore of the Philippines, in the contemporary urban context of its capital, Manila. A mixture that is not strange in many horror works, but that is refreshed with a culture not so common in mainstream media.
With an amazing advance that has little to envy to animated works present on its platform, Netflix shows with particular pride what they have in hand with this new series. An ideal series for fans left behind by the end of Castlevania.
The story takes us to the adventures of Alexandra Trese, a warrior and healer who struggles to maintain the balance between the human and the supernatural world. Coming from a lineage of warriors who maintain a balance between both worlds, which begins to fade when other families make pacts with creatures on the other side.
With supernatural deaths causing terror in Manila, it will be up to Trese to unveil what is behind this whole situation, as well as close her own relationship with her powers and her family. The original comic was created by the duet of Budjette Tan, in the storyline, and Kajo Baldisimo, in the original art.
Having a very prolific career, starting from 2005 to the present, this series has more than 20 works compiled in different publishers from the Philippines. Being a highly awarded comic around the world, it takes a gigantic leap into the world of animation, but highly deserved.
It is always important to see how cultures that break out of the mainstream reach the world of animation and offer us visions of stories that we might never know. A special series that goes out of the norm enough to attract attention but will fill in the gaps that many fans now feel.
