While many were discovering the new features of Battle.net and its unification of regions, Blizzard announced another new functionality that may bring joy to several players. However, this will depend on how you feel about crossover play as it is coming to Overwatch “very soon” with several highlights.
There will be no cross-platform play in any competitive mode, so games that determine rank and can make some players more nervous than usual will remain as they have always been. But as for the casual modes (most of them), we can choose to play with players from other platforms or not.
Forced coexistence
Players who disable this option will only be able to play with players who have chosen the same option, so the search time for matches will likely increase. We imagine that those who prefer to play with others will be the majority, so those who prefer to remain isolated will have to accept cross-play if they do not want to wait an eternity to find a game.
In addition, it should be noted that PC players cannot reject or deactivate cross-play, it will be activated as standard and they will simply have to adapt to their new opponents, this will alleviate long waits on PC now that they can pair with people from up to five different consoles , but it is likely to upset someone.
It should also be mentioned that now all players need to create a Battle.net account, this will be parallel to their account on consoles, with a parallel friends list and must be linked to their console. This step is mandatory, although at least it will reward us with a golden loot box (those who already had an account will also receive it).
Overwatch will soon receive the crossover game so claimed for years and in this game players from PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S, Switch and PC will be able to participate.
