We have a lot to criticize Blizzard in general and for the disastrous launch of this sequel, but we can’t deny that they seem dedicated to correcting, at least, the problems of this title. We already learned of some changes that they will make in the progression of Overwatch 2 for season 3 and now we know what the Antarctic Peninsula will be like, the new Control map.
In an interview with Gamespotart director Dion Rogers, level designer Trey Spisak, and narrative designer Gavin Jurgens-Fyhrie discussed this new setting.
The Antarctic Peninsula is a map created specifically for the Control game mode of Overwatch 2. It will also be the first of the maps that Blizzard calls “organic” and with unusual structures that stray from typical urban settings. Another special element of this map is that it will have an environmental narrative that will tell us the story of Mei and the rescue attempts by the Overwatch organization. As an example we have the icebreaker ship that was part of a mission that failed.
A notable presence in this scenario will be the fauna. While we travel through this Antarctic map we can find bullet dodge penguins y fish that will shoot out of holes in the ice when we shoot them. The developers described this as “a fishing minigame for Overwatch 2«, but they did not elaborate what it consists of.
