The recently announced sequel to the realistic medieval RPG has already been seen. We had the opportunity to witness a special broadcast of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 with its director Daniel Vavra. He presented us with what could be one of the great games of 2024.
It must be remembered that the original title from Warhorse Studios, released 6 years ago, promised to be the definitive medieval experience. With a first-person view and without magical elements – which are common in this type of game – it offered an interesting proposal and became one of the best RPGs of 2018. This sequel doubles the bet and brings many ideas that were not available at the time. were possible on their first attempt, commented its developer.
A massive Open World and an already known protagon ist.
The first thing is how massive it is. This RPG not only improves the graphics, as expected, but also expands the player’s freedoms in a vast open world. «We have shown that the premise of Kingdom Come It works and now we can take it to new levels,” Vavra said. This sequel offers the ability to explore and act freely, allowing players to be from a noble knight to a cunning thief, directly impacting how the world responds to their actions.
The game promises a rich variety of settings, from bustling cities and mining environments to dense forests teeming with wildlife, ancient ruins and hidden secrets. Its developers say that each location is designed to offer unique challenges and opportunities for exploration, ensuring that each player can write “their own legend” in this medieval world.
In Kingdon Come: Deliverance 2, We resume the story of Henry, the protagonist of the first game and his confrontation against Sigismund the Red Fox, King of Hungary. This will not be a problem for new players, as the game will somehow bring those who did not experience the story of the first installment up to date. Another novelty is being able to customize Henry almost completely. We can modify his skills and appearance to participate in activities such as blacksmithing, archery and potion making.
More dynamic combat
Combat recaptures the complexity of the original game, with a focus on precision first-person swordplay where speed and strategy are crucial. New additions like crossbows and archaic firearms enrich the available tactics. The immersion deepens with a revamped crime system. The player’s actions—such as stealing or causing trouble—alter their reputation throughout the kingdom of Bohemia. Henry’s responses to these perceptions are also more varied, adding depth to the character’s development.
Immersion is enhanced by meticulous details in weapons, armor, and realistic animations powered by the CryEngine. Its objective is to capture the essence of 15th century Bohemia as faithfully as possible. The orchestral soundtrack by Jan Volta – who made a brief appearance in the presentation – accompanies this setting. It adds an emotional layer, with very traditional rhythms of the region, that complements the narrative and aesthetics of the game.
The expectation is high
The impressive presentation only leaves good feelings about the game. Daniel Vávra has worked alongside a team of 250 developers for six years to carry out this ambitious sequel that described as “the definitive medieval RPG adventure.” With this basis, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 not only seeks to continue the story started in 2018. It wants to set a new standard in role-playing games with historical roots and game mechanics that reflect the true consequences of the player’s choices. The game is expected to be available later this year on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
