Despite Fan Requests, Sega Won’t Defer Sonic Frontiers

In early June, IGN exclusively revealed new gameplay videos for one of the upcoming Blue Hedgehog games. We are talking about Sonic Frontiers and although many fans were impressed by what was shown, others were disappointed and began to ask Sega for a postponement so that they can improve it. Just take a look at the label #DelaySonicFrontiers in social networks to realize that they are not few.

Many players say that the world seems empty, that the objects in the scenarios look generic and that there are many visual problems. They are encouraged because, years ago, fans managed to get Paramount to postpone the release of Sonic: The Movie to improve the design of the protagonist.

But despite the campaign, Sega has no intention of postponing the game.

In an interview with the publication Video Games ChronicleTakashi Iizuka – director of the Sonic Team studio – said that the reaction of the community does not seem so surprising.

“We know that everyone is reacting to the videos they saw and they don’t understand what this new gameplay is. They’re comparing it to other games (…) The team is creating a new format for Sonic that we’re calling ‘open zone’ and it’s something that doesn’t really exist in comparable games. We look forward to explaining what it really is between now and launch.”

Iizula added that he hopes the people behind #DelaySonicFrontiers understand what the game is when they can try it out at Gamescom or Tokyo Game Show because right now they’re just reacting to what they think it is based on the videos.

If they don’t change their minds and decide on a postponement despite the pressure, Sonic Frontiers

It will go on sale in the last quarter of 2022 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch. We recently saw it on the special presentation Sonic Central 2022.
