Soon you will be able to use Discord on your PS5. Users of the beta program have had the chance to test some functions that we will see soon in the aforementioned console. One of them is Discord integration among the basic communication functions of the PlayStation 5something similar to what Microsoft did by integrating Discord into the Xbox Series X | S.
The beta program, let’s remember, is an opportunity that Sony offers users from Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Japan and the United States to test the news that is on its way to the console. Once its correct operation is verified, they are released to the public, and with Discord it will not be the exception.
We have been waiting for the integration with Discord since May 2021. Now, you can participate in the voice chats of the platform directly from your PS5. Unfortunately, initially it is necessary that you also use Discord on another device —mobile or computer—, since only from there you can start the calls.
Discord took a similar approach when it came to Xbox consoles. However, after testing all the functions, they enabled the possibility of call directly from the console in November of last year. Therefore, although it is not possible to do it from your PS5 at the moment, it is quite likely that the feature will end up coming later.
Discord is not the only novelty that will come to your PS5
In addition to the Discord integration, Sony has also included other long-awaited improvements to the beta software for the PS5. Now, you can activate the function Share Screen when you are visiting a friend’s profile. So, if you want to share what you’re playing on your console with someone, or see what your friend is playing, both options will be available from their contact profile.
On the other hand, now you can manually upload the captures or clips of your games to the PlayStation App. Currently, there is a way to do this automatically, but if you only want to transfer specific content, the new beta includes the option.
Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) is another novelty of the beta, and comes to support 1440p resolution. Sony ensures that you can enjoy great visual performance by activating this function. To take advantage of it, it is necessary that the game, screen / monitor have support for VRR.
Other features of the update is the ability to update the DualSense controller wirelessly, without connecting to the PS5 via cable. Also, a function is added that facilitates the migration of saved data from PS4 to PS5. If you install a game on your PS5 and you already had a PS4 game in the cloud, the console will prompt you to download this data to pick up where you left off.
