Things are bad in the world of video games. Although we have not lacked excellent titles, large companies do not stop laying off employees to keep their shareholders happy and it is increasingly difficult for them to find financing. The Embracer group is a company that dedicated itself to buying tons of video game companies, only to close several without releasing games for them, lay off more than a thousand employees
Through a presentation to shareholders, which you can see here if it is something that interests youthis company announced its intention to split into three different entities listed on the stock exchange through NASDAQ Stockholm.
This is how the group was divided:
- Asmodee: publication and distribution of board games.
- Coffee Stain & Friends: A group of video game studios focused on A, AA, and free-to-play titles for PC, consoles, and mobile devices.
- Middle-earth Enterprises & Friends: A group of AAA video game studios for PC and consoles. These include Eidos and Crystal Dynamics.
Although those names “and their friends” seem a little ridiculous, what matters to us is that this new distribution allows studios to work without worries and without fear of being fired.
We are going to be very attentive to how things progress for the studios that made up the now defunct Embracer Group. We are especially interested in hearing news about the new game of Tomb Raider
