Veteran Rockstar Games developer Obbe Vermeij believes the studio can take its time with GTA 6 because “there’s no competition to worry about” and the game “will be sold for 10+ years” anyway. Vermeij, who also argued that the game’s 2025 release date won’t actually be locked in until early 2025, speculated on the game’s prospects in a recent Twitter post.
Vermeij clarifies that he has no inside information about the game nor has he spoken to anyone within the company. The developer left Rockstar Games in 2009. Before that, he spent nearly 14 years as technical director and played a major role in the programming of GTA III y GTA IVas well as in Vice City y San Andreas.
In other statements that refute an assured postponement, Vermeij recalled that the decision to postpone GTA 4for example, was taken about four months later than the original planned date. Beyond that it is difficult to be sure, so Rockstar could only make the decision around May 2025.
