As we said in our review, Aloy’s new adventure is one of those games that like to take us by the hand so that we can find all its secrets. Well, almost everyone. Horizon Forbidden West has a group of collectible objects that can only be found by exploring the map, since there is no guide that leads us to them: they are the war totems of God of War with which we unlock a Kratos-inspired face paint.
Although the totems can be found directly, near them there are also clues that refer to the world of God of War. Please note that Getting them all won’t unlock any Trophies, but they are needed to reach 100% game completion..
Next we will tell you how to find each of them.
Where are the guild totems?
Just south of the entrance to LATOPOLIS, HADES’ research lab, we can find the remains of a Widemouth. As you approach, Aloy will notice the curious Hammer with which he was eliminated.. If we examine it and follow the trail using the Focus, we will come to the first of the totems with references to God of War from Horizon Forbidden West.
You can use the photo and map below as a guide to find the hammer.
The Focus trail will lead us to the island a little further south, which is an Ice Raptor site. The totem is located to the east of the small mountain, in a hole in the floor. Again, the map we share will show you the exact spot.
The brotherhood totems are a clear reference to Sindri and Brok, the dwarves who forged Kratos’ ax and Thor’s hammer.
Where is the war totem?
The next reference to the Sony game Santa Monica is in the snowy mountains in the north of the map, southwest of The Bulwark. In one of the trees in the area we will find Leviathan, Kratos’s axe, nailed to a tree near a river. Aloy even comments on how cold she is.
By examining the ax and using Focus, we can follow a trail that will lead us to the totem. It is in the middle of an area of Sunwings, but the real danger is the Stalker that haunts the place.
The war totem is in a hut that is meant to remind us of Kratos’ home in God of War. It is located directly west of the exit of the submerged cavern called ‘steep mountains’.
This totem is a perfect representation of our favorite god of war.
Where is the totem of youth?
The last of the war totems that make references to God of War It is located on the Island of Needles (San Francisco) at the western end of the map of Horizon Forbidden West. This is an extremely dangerous area that is best explored near the end of the game.
On the beach that serves as a habitat for the bearded vultures —the crocodile robots— we will find a small group of palm trees with arrows stuck in them. By examining the arch there, we can use Focus to mark the trail to the next totem pole.
The totem pole is a little further north and in full view, but in the middle of the nest of one of the most dangerous machines in the game: a Storm. If you don’t want to face him, equip the best stealth armor possible and Follow the trail to an abandoned school bus. Use the width to climb the structure and you can get the Totem of Youth.
The map we prepared for you shows you the exact place.
This totem looks exactly like Atreus, the son of Kratos and Faye.
If you have trouble finding these or other items in the game, we recommend using this excellent interactive map. Sadly, it is not in Spanish.
How to get face paint God of War ‘Mark of War’ on Horizon Forbidden West
The ‘Mark of War’ face paint, which allows Aloy to be made up like Kratos from God of War, es the reward for finding all three war totems in Horizon Forbidden West.
Just like the other paintings, we cannot equip it at any time. We must visit an artist in Lanzahirviente, El Baluarte or Ciénaga Espinosa. It will only cost us 10 metal shards. Remember that face paints are simply aesthetic elements. They have no effect on Aloy’s abilities.
When this game came out we didn’t expect to find references to God of Warbut to Ghost of Tsushima. After all, the Sucker Punch game has a huge reference to Aloy.
And God of War: Ragnarok -the next adventure of Kratos and Atreus- does not suffer further postponements should hit the market this year. You can read more about this long-awaited game by following this link.
