Questions to Keishu Minami, producer of Sand Land
What has been the biggest challenge when it comes to balancing combat mechanics with vehicles?
«In combat, Beelzebub is mainly suitable for fighting individual enemies or small groups. While vehicles are better for facing many enemies at once. As for the specific vehicles, each one has its own characteristics. These specialize in speed, combat, etc.
Part of the fun of the game is discovering which vehicles best suit your personal play style. Enemies that are overwhelming to defeat with Beelzebub can be easily handled with the tank’s heavy firepower.
It was difficult to adjust the damage balance between Beelzebub and vehicles when fighting the same enemy. I think we were able to create a balance of action that allows users to experience both the exhilaration of laying waste to hordes of enemies with vehicles and the intimate feeling of connecting one-on-one combos with Beelzebub.. Since, which one you use more depends on you. I hope you can enjoy both types of action in this desert world. »
How much creative freedom have you had with respect to the original material. Is Akira Toriyama involved in some of the game’s creative processes?
«We have been working with Toriyama-sensei as general supervisor through the licensor, including story narrative and vehicle design.
Can we expect easter eggs or references to games or other works by Akira Toriyama in Sand Land?
«There is no doubt that Sand Land y Dragon Ball They have their own independent worldviews, but since they are both works of Toriyama-sensei, we use them as references in the development of our game.. For example, the vehicle designs are based on so-called “Toriyama-mechs” that you may have seen somewhere before. “We also incorporated other elements reminiscent of Toriyama-sensei’s style that can be seen in the grass, trees and rock surfaces.”
Is there a possibility of having a dub for Sand Land to Latin American Spanish?
The answer to the question about the arrival of a possible dubbing into Latin American Spanish for the video game Sand Land It was short and quite diplomatic. Keishu Minami told us that “The dubbing in the game is in Japanese and English, but we have 12 subtitled languages, including Latin American Spanish«. It is a shame that—despite the success and impact that Akira Toriyama’s work has had in our region—we cannot enjoy a game dubbed into our language. However, the answer does not end our hopes so we hope that in the future we can not only see this type of games but also others from the developer dubbed into our native language.
