Blizzard is making some pretty bold moves with the sequel to its once-popular team-based shooter. We were surprised by the news that Overwatch 2 changed teams of 6 players to teams of 5, which it will be a free game or ‘free-to-play’ and now we know what will happen to the original game: it will replace it.
That’s how it is. The original version of Overwatch it will no longer be playable when its sequel is available.
During an AMA (question and answer session) on the ‘Games’ subreddit, a participant asked if Overwatch
“When OW2 is released on October 4 it will be a replacement for the current service.”
What will happen with Overwatch when will part 2 come out?
Unless Keller expressed himself terribly wrong, this effectively means that Overwatch will cease to exist when it arrives Overwatch 2, So this will replace it.. This contradicts what Blizzard said in the original announcement of the game, when they explained that both titles would coexist.
This news does not make certain sectors of the community who were not satisfied with what was seen in the beta very happy. Many believe that the change from 6v6 to 5v5 and the focus on DPS “betrays” the philosophy of the first game and will alienate casual players in favor of pro and esports players. If the original experience disappears, there will be no way to recreate it in the new title.
On the Reddit AMA, Keller also explained that Overwatch 2 will not have lootboxes, but that all content earned from them in the first game will carry over to the player’s account in the sequel.
