Sony Interactive Entertainment is ready to take the next step in VR with PlayStation VR2 (no need to strain on the name). This new device from the playstation family it will only be compatible with PS5. The revamped viewfinder and controls provide a next-generation experience with high visual fidelity, sensory functions, and improved movement tracking.
And fewer cables, thankfully.
What’s new about PlayStation VR2?
PlayStation VR2 offers 4K HDR, a 110-degree field of view, and a dedicated eye-tracking technique. With an OLED screen, gamers will experience 2000×2040 resolution for each eye and a smooth 90 / 120Hz frame rate. Thanks to the viewfinder and new controls, your movements and the direction you are looking will be reflected in the game without the need for an additional external camera.
To improve immersion, the visor introduces a new function that amplifies the sensations in the player’s actions. This has been developed based on an integrated engine that adds an intelligent touch element, closer to the gaming experience. For example, players can feel a character’s high pulse during these moments, objects passing near a character’s head, or the movement of a vehicle when accelerating.
Additionally, the PlayStation 5’s Tempest 3D Audio system generates sounds that make environments feel alive, adding to this new level of immersion. Eye tracking on the PlayStation VR2 viewfinder detects eye movement, so a simple glance in a specific direction can still generate a command. In this way, players act more intuitively and naturally, as well as realistically.
All of these PlayStation VR2 enhancements, combined with the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers of the PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers – similar to DualSense – allow gamers to feel and interact with games in a more visceral way. A single cable connects the peripheral to the PS5 console, facilitating the VR experience.
What is it Horizon: Call of the Mountain?
With only a few weeks to go Horizon: Forbidden West On February 18, a new franchise title was announced for PSVR2. Exclusive to this new PS5-compatible device from Sony, this experience has been designed to drive technology, innovation and playability.
The improved graphics of PlayStation VR2 and its Sense controls completely immerse users in the world of Horizon. There is little that Sony can reveal at the moment, but the story will be told through a new character who will find Aloy and other familiar faces. New characters are also part of the new world of Horizon: Call of the Mountain.
