Last year is in the past. 2024 offers us new experiences, emotions and video games that we can’t wait to try. But don’t you worry that maybe you left behind things that were worth knowing? Despite having been one of the worst years for video games, 2023 had a lot of great games and it was impossible to make time to play them all. But above all, there were several titles that did not receive the love they deserved. These are the 2023 games that deserve a second chance.
The following titles did not necessarily fail in sales. Some of them were simply overshadowed by others with a close release date, others received unfair criticism before their release that conditioned the public against them, or a bad advertising campaign did not allow them to be known. However, we believe that they are very worth it and that is why we come to recommend that you do not leave them behind.
Wild Hearts
«EA is making a clone of Monter Hunter«said many when they saw the first trailer for this title. That is an unfair and literally wrong statement. It is true that it is a hunting game clearly inspired by the successful Capcom series, but it is not from EA. Its developers are Omega Force, the Koei Tecmo studio usually in charge of the saga. Dynasty Warriors and its ‘spin-offs’.
What makes special Wild Hearts They are hunting tools. Multipurpose weapons that are quite different from those of Monster Hunter in its operation and especially the Karakuri, traps and objects that we can deploy in the scenarios not only to help us in battle, but to facilitate movement through the maps. This means that each player not only has a personalized character, but can modify their entire world.
Now that many have returned to Monster Hunt waiting for new delivery Wildsthis game is also worth giving a chance. You will find a familiar experience but with enough new features to make it exciting..
Our review of Wild Hearts is here. If they decide to play it, maybe our tips guide for beginners they find it useful. Of course, we recommend playing it on consoles because the PC version still has performance problems.
The prophesied
This work by the creators of Final Fantasy XV had the bad luck to release a trailer promoting his self-referential humor at the height of the “speech” declaring that these kinds of jokes were saturating superhero movies. That generated a negative reaction that dominated the conversation about this game.
That’s a shame because The prophesied is an excellent open world title with truly unique magical combat and movement systems. It is true that the type of humor of the protagonist Frey Holland may not be to everyone’s taste, but that does not take away one bit of her charisma.
Since its release, more and more people have given the game a chance and found that it is actually a great experience. Recent reviews of the game on Steam have been mostly positive and it is becoming a cult work.
You can read our review of The prophesied here. We also invite you to read this article about his postgame.
Exoprimal
When Capcom announced this competitive team multiplayer title, the first reactions were disappointment. These had nothing to do with the game itself, but rather the fact that it was not a new Dino Crisis.
It’s good that it has no relation to Dino Crisis beyond a character that is a clear reference to Regina because this is not a ‘survival horror’. It is an exaggerated action game that is not going to scare us, but it can keep us very tense. But above all, Exoprimal It is a supremely fun title to play with both friends and strangers.. It still has a very large community of players – boosted thanks to the fact that it is available on Game Pass and has ‘crossplay’ – so finding games is very easy.
Although it is a game that places a lot of emphasis on microtransactions, these are not at all intrusive and there are no gameplay elements blocked for those who do not pay. All armor can be unlocked through gameplay. We wish it were less monetized, but that doesn’t take away from the fun.
Lean our review of Exoprimal If you want to know more about why it deserves to be given a chance. Capcom has strongly supported this game with constant new updates and we hope it continues like this. Here you also have a beginner’s guide in case you want to start playing.
Atlas Fallen
Most of you probably haven’t even heard of this game, as not only is it not a AAA title, but it was “buried” in the press due to the big releases surrounding it. As if that were not enough, the little publicity it received failed to explain what makes it special.
Naked eye, Atlas Fallen It seems like another game like so many others. But what lies beneath the surface is a fantastic, highly customizable combat system. Fights against enemies are epic and strategic duels in which we have to choose well the tools to use, know when to attack and what part of the opponent to try to destroy. In this sense it is more similar to hunting games like Monster Hunter than the open world games with which it was compared.
It’s true that the story is nothing special and the settings are somewhat generic, but the combat is so good that its other flaws can be excused. Additionally, you have the option to play online cooperative multiplayer.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
We don’t know if this game is a bestseller or a failure, but what we do know is that Ubisoft barely gave it the importance it deserved when promoting it. After all, it’s based on two of the highest-grossing movies of all time.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora It’s one of the most beautiful games we’ve played and one of the best open-world titles of the past year. It is basically Far Cry in Pandora, but leaving aside the nihilism of those games in favor of an environmentalist and anti-colonial message that, miraculously, fits perfectly with the game mechanics.
There is a lot of cynicism and ridicule surrounding the Avatar franchise. It is true that the plots of the films are too basic and based on clichés. But this game offers a much more interesting story and cleverly gets rid of the most overused tropes.
We invite you to read our review of this game y an article (with some ‘spoilers’) on how he handles his anti-colonial themes. It is a fantastic game that fans of movies and open world games should not miss.
These are just a few examples of 2023 games that we believe deserve a second chance from gamers who ignored them when they came out. All of them offer many hours of fun and, in our case, we continued having fun with games of Exoprimal and exploring the Avatar map even after seeing the credits.
What are other games from last year that you think should be revisited? We wait for your comments.
