As we had recently announced, it was supposed to Overwatch 2 was going to be released in the afternoon of October 4 in Colombia. However, it was not like that, so thousands of people were waiting to play. Blizzard has already communicated the reason why Overwatch 2 does not work: a DDOS attack.
In the first few minutes of the global launch, players were able to enjoy the title a bit. Nevertheless, it wasn’t long before almost everyone was logged out and couldn’t get back in. Many reported queues of thousands of people, while others had the counter at zero, but could not get in. At the time of publishing this note, the image inside the game (for many) is the following:
No doubt this seemed highly irregular to the public. After some uncertainty, Mike Ybarra himself (president of Blizzard Entertainment) clarified what was happening. According to the executive, the servers of Overwatch 2 were suffering from a DDOS attack.
Ybarra’s message reads as follows:
“Unfortunately we are experiencing a massive DDOS attack on our servers. Teams are working hard to mitigate/resolve the issue. This is causing a lot of crashes and connection issues.”
A DDOS attack, or denial-of-service attack, is a type of computer attack on a network that prevents users from accessing it. These are usually generated when a gigantic amount of information flows is sent to the network, which overloads it and generates slow services, as well as disconnections.
It is not yet known when the game may be available.
Not just the DDOS attack – there are other issues right now in Overwatch 2
Other than that, other users have reported issues other than disconnections within the first few minutes of entering the game. For example, there have been reports of missing cosmetics, game history bugs, and camera issues.
