Since 2019, the GLAAD association (“Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation”) have been including video games in their prestigious annual awards ceremony and 2022 is not going to be the exception. The nominees are titles that stood out for their fair and inclusive representation of LGBTI characters and the challenges they face on a daily basis.
You can find out the nominees for all categories of the 2022 GLAAD Awards, delivery #33, following this link
But now it’s time to meet this year’s nominees in the video game category:
- Boyfriend Dungeon (Kitfox Games)
- Far Cry 6 (Ubisoft)
- The Gardener and the Wild Vines (Finite Reflection Studios)
- Kena: Bridge of Spirits (Ember Lab)
- Life is Strange: True Colors (Deck Nine Games/Square Enix)
- Psychonauts 2 (Double Fine/Xbox Game Studios)
- Rainbow Billy: The Curse of the Leviathan
- Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege (Ubisoft)
- Unpacking (Witch Beam /Humble Games)
- UNSIGHTED (Studio Pixel Punk /Humble Games)
We’re glad to see a good mix of both AAA and indie games on this list.
It is necessary to mention that many have criticized these awards, alleging that being nominated for them is as simple as mentioning that one of their characters is homosexual. Others defend them by explaining that even minor representations can help others identify with them.
The winners of the GLAAD Awards, including in the LGBTI video game category, will be announced on Saturday April 2, 2022.
