Game Boy Advance games are having a resurgence on current platforms, which speaks quite a lot of portable quality in 32-bit. The last one corresponds to Wayforward, Sigma Star Sagaplayed and written by Matt Bozon, one of the parents of Shantae. This 2005 classic combines RPG elements with upper view and side displacement shooting action. This time bears the name of Sigma Star Saga DXthe refined and definitive version of the game. It presents a lot of quality of life and several corrections based on the comments of the players, updated by the original development team.

Basically, it is the patch they would have launched 20 years ago, if GBA patches had existed at the time. Since March 7, 2025, it will be available to book as a cartridge compatible with Game Boy Advance in Limited Run Games, both in standard and collector edition. It will also reach modern platforms, on a subsequent not specified date.

Sigma Star Saga DX

• Reduced frequency of random battles
If there is a criticism about the Sigma Star Saga Original, it is that random battles of lateral displacement shots were too frequent. For DX, the encounter rate was reduced to approximately half of what was previously.

• Increased experience points to improve the general rhythm
Since the rate of encounters is decreasing, the EXP that has increased to compensate, thus maintaining the balance of difficulty while providing a faster rate.

• Player's movement speed increased during adventure sequences from top to bottom
Ian Recker, the protagonist of the game, is now lighter at the feet, which improves the general rhythm and feeling of the game.

• Automatic trigger for all “Shmup” weapons
Now you can save your thumb from destruction. Automatic shooting for all weapons was increased, while preserving the ability to shoot manually faster.

• Improved map with objective markers
Better clues have been added for players to continue advancing in the right direction, and the maps of each planet now show where to go.

• Additional saving points
Additional storage points reduce the need to play lost progress after an over game.

• Improvements in texts and dialogues
Better clues and descriptions of objects; narrative corrections to solve minor inconsistencies in the plot and the general rhythm.

• Modified impact boxes for all the ships, bullets and enemies of the players
The enemy shots can now touch the player's ship, and the player's bullets will reach their objectives with greater precision in the side displacement shooting segments.

• Improved players detection for moving platforms
Now it is less likely that you accidentally fall when you find moving platforms in upper view sections.

• Inherited errors corrected in the 2005 version
Due to the random variations that players could find in Sigma Star Sagasome things escaped from the original version. These problems (such as being in a ship too large for the battlefield or being trapped in an endless battle sequence) have already been corrected.

Sigma Star Saga DX
