Since it arrived PS5 to market with its ability to play PS4 games via backward compatibility, gamers are running into a curious problem: They are not sure if they are playing the ‘old’ version of a game or the upgraded version for PS5.
This is not a problem on Xbox platform consoles. Thanks to its ‘Smart Delivery’ system, we will always play the best possible version of a game on Xbox Series X | S. Sadly, PS5 doesn’t have something quite like it. Because of this, many players end up with both versions of the same title and playing the one that is not optimized.
This is no longer going to be the case thanks to a small change. Now, when we are going to start a game and we have access to both versions, the console shows us a small message informing us if we are going to play the PS4 version and offers the option to run the PS5 version.
This is welcome, but it is not enough. The alert does not extend to the PlayStation s tore and because of this many players continue to accidentally download versions for PS4 despite being able to download the higher versions for PS5, wasting download time and bandwidth.
It’s good that at least we now know if we’re going to run a lower version of a game, but we hope Sony will offer us a more elegant solution soon.
