Rainbow Six Extraction Game Director Patrik Méthé discusses the team’s decision to use only Siege Operators and not new ones.
The upcoming release of Rainbow Six Extraction is intriguing in multiple ways. Obviously, that it’s a Left 4 Dead-style co-op first-person shooter is particularly exciting. However, Rainbow Six Extraction’s unique relationship with Rainbow Six Siege is also appealing, as the protagonists of the Siege Operator will also be playable in Extraction. It seems that the relationship is perhaps even deeper than is implied, as it is now confirmed that Rainbow Six Extraction will not have new operators of its own.
Speaking to The Loadout, Rainbow Six Extraction game director Patrik Méthé confirmed the limitation. Méthé explains that Rainbow Six Extraction will only have operators that already exist in Rainbow Six Siege. He states that the current list of Rainbow Six Siege operators that are already available offers “more than enough options” to “cover all angles.” It’s not exactly clear what it means to cover all angles, but it likely means there’s nothing they want to do that requires new traders.
However, that doesn’t mean that the Ubisoft team hasn’t considered adding new operators. Méthé mentions discussing the possibility from the beginning. He says the team had “some discussions” but ultimately decided not to. The idea is that implementing existing Siege Operators in a PvE experience would be the “best way to add new layers of knowledge” and “shed new light on them”. In other words, Méthé sees it as a way to grow the existing history and lore of Rainbow Six Siege.
As the threat grows, our Operators rise to meet it. Their mission: learn about the enemy, stop its spread at all costs… and leave no one behind.
