Hello everyone! As a longtime Ratchet & Clank fan, it has been an absolute honor to show you what to expect in our heroes’ latest interdimensional adventure in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, including cutting-edge next-gen visuals. breath. That’s why I can’t wait to immerse myself in a feature that is close to my heart: photo mode.
Can’t tell you how long I’ve been waiting for fans and virtual photographers to get their hands on Ratchet & Clank’s very first photo mode. We bring the intuitive features of our previous games to provide you with a suite of photography tools to use in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, all backed by the power of the PlayStation 5 console. Take photos quickly with incredible fidelity, including highly detailed * dynamic 4K resolution images with ray tracing. It’s amazing, so check out our photo mode trailer below to see it for yourself.
If you’ve used our photo modes before, you’ll feel right at home here. We have multiple tabs with a variety of settings and adjustments you can make on the fly, including changing the field of view, choosing focus distances, layering filters and stylish frames, application of hilarious stickers etc.
As with real photography, lighting is key to capturing the perfect shot. We’ve brought back the ability to add up to three lights to your scenes, including spherical lights to cover larger areas and spotlights to focus on the details that matter to you. You can also change the natural lighting of the surroundings to create the right ambience for your shots.
Something new that we are introducing in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart’s photo mode is the character poses. There are tons of choices, including weapon-specific poses that are unlocked when you buy a new weapon in the game, as well as silly poses to add fun to your shots. To top it off, you can apply facial expressions and mix up the armor you’ve unlocked to give Ratchet and Rivet some personality and style.
We also have a new Visual Effects mode that you can turn on to add animated effects to your preview – great for people who like to create gifs or videos!
Point and shoot has a whole new meaning in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart thanks to some of the stellar game features described here. So, while you detonate Nefarious Troopers and save the Omniverse from the dimensional cataclysm, take a second to switch to photo mode and experiment with your photography skills.
To help you get started, we’ve put together some tips for you:
“Make sure to take advantage of the lights when creating images in photo mode. Lights will help you make your subject stand out from the background and can add more depth and dimension to your images.
– Justin West, Senior Content Artist at Insomniac Games
“The rule of thirds is your friend! Imagine your screen is evenly divided 2 lines down, 2 lines across, forming 9 squares. Anywhere the grid lines intersect, this is a great focal point position to have the face of our hero or dreaded foe!
– Shaun Besman, Senior Content Artist at Insomniac Games
“Stickers and borders are a really easy way to add a ton of personality to your photos.”
– Thomas Hart, Associate Community Manager at Insomniac Games
One last piece of advice from me: don’t be afraid to approach! Use “FOV” and “focus distance” modes to create stunning close-ups. There are incredible details about our characters, weapons and environments; focus on those to really make your topics stand out.
