When it was time to think about brand new content for Shredder’s Revenge, we immediately wanted to add something new to complement the fast-paced arcade gameplay we had already created.
A new survival mode looked like Krang’s empty android body: a no-brainer! We already knew the fans wanted it, but it became clear that a survival mode would become a new arena for multiplayer fun. A mode where players could jump in and out, fight new enemies, collect strange bonuses and discover new worlds.
What the shell is going on?
Interrupting a pizza party, Dimension X’s craziest rebels – the Neutrinos – call on the Turtles for help. The Foot Clan has marched through dimensions and only mutant martial artists can stop them! Always ready to crush the bad guys, the turtles agree to take a break from the party and get into the multiversal fray.
In Dimension Shellshock’s new survival mode, Turtles battle across worlds collecting shards to assemble Dimension Crystals. When assembled, the Multiversal Gems allow the rambunctious Reptiles to travel deeper into dimensions to take on Shredder.
Upon entering the Dimensional Gauntlet, you will fight in a wide variety of arenas, taking on opponents old and new.
After collecting enough crystals, you will be able to fight Shredder in the void. If you manage to defeat him, you’ll either return home to the Neutrinos or get the chance to keep fighting through the toughest challenge of all: climbing to the top of the leaderboards.
The fighting stuff
Survival mode is no walk in the interdimensional park: players will face over 100 unique combat challenges, including a plethora of different enemy waves, each of which is suitable for single or multiple players.
Beware of new variants of foot soldiers – armed with punitive weapons – looking to make you turtle soup!
For fierce fighters, mastering enemy waves can become even more difficult: the Foot Clan has released variations of soldiers and so your opponents evolve into tougher versions of themselves.
Foot soldiers aren’t the only obstacle in your way to the Shredder. The Foot Clan’s multiversal journey has made the dimensions susceptible to extreme conditions. Powerful gusts of wind could send you straight into enemy hands while low gravity could allow you to jump even higher than before. Beware of danger from above: crystalline stalactites shoot straight into the ground, risking your shell if you’re not careful.
Benefits and Recreation
If you are strong enough to defeat an entire horde, two reward portals will appear. They both lead you to your next fight but also offer game-changing bonuses. You might receive useful pizzas for your sick ninjas, large amounts of shards, or even mysterious boxes of slime. If you choose the slime, you gain access to special mutation perks, transforming your hero.
Will you make your hero faster by choosing the Turbo Teen perk? Become a Rude Dude, doubling your attack power but risking double the damage? You can even select the Boss Mutations perk, turning you into Bebop, Rocksteady, or even the infamous Shredder for a few turns!
Dimensional Shellshock’s survival mode lives up to its title: your pan-dimensional adventure begins with your base abilities and a single life! Assembling new crystals becomes the only way to gain more life energy, increase your ninja power bar, add precious extra lives but also the ability to choose your preferred challenge level.
across the multiverse
The new game mode goes beyond the usual campaign levels into a carousel of battle arenas, inspired by the rich history of TMNT. You’ll begin your journey in an Edo dimension inspired by Usagi Yojimbo, jump into an 8-bit battlefield, and battle through Omnichannel 6 and beyond!
You might start to feel homesick, but old friends and some foes have joined in to cheer your victory or cheer your defeat.
Creating Shredder’s Revenge was a lifelong dream and a career highlight for all of us at Tribute Games. We are very proud to have the chance to return to the well and add to the video game legacy of the Turtles.
We hope you’ll join us for another spin in the TMNT toy box when the Dimension Shellshock DLC releases later this year on PlayStation 4.
