Quentin Tarantino is no longer working on the next production of the ‘Star Trek’ universe, which is scheduled to premiere in 2023, but screenwriter Mark L. Smith is ready to drop a few details of what the director wanted to take the big screen.
Smith gave details about his meeting with the director of ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ while he was in the podcast Bulletproof Screenwriting. The screenwriter of ‘The Revenant’ commented that he was contacted by Bad Robot, JJ Abrams’ company, to work on the script for the film that Tarantino was interested in directing.
“And that was the first day I met Quentin, he was reading a scene that he wrote and it was an amazing and cool gangster scene, and he was acting it up and down. I told him I was so angry that I didn’t record it on my phone. It would be very valuable. It was incredible”.
According to Smith, both he and Tarantino were inspired by some gangster productions to bring ‘Star Trek’ to life. Of course, for the fans of ‘Star Trek’ this reference could be far from their expectations for fiction production, but, fortunately, the idea will no longer see the lights of the shoot, since the filmmaker of ‘Kill Bill ‘jumped ship in 2020.
Tarantino withdrew from the project to focus on his latest production as a director, as he will later retire to pursue other facets. Now, it is the director of ‘WandaVision’, Matt Shakman who is at the helm along with Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet, who will be in charge of the script.
We do not know again what this new film in the Paramount franchise is about, but it is expected to keep its release date for June 9, 2023. Although first we want to know, at least, the official title.
