Republic Commando is a fan favorite, and no one knows it better than Aspyr. Believe me, we’ve read plenty of tweets and comments asking for it. We are happy to say that your inquiries will finally be answered.
That’s right, Aspyr Media is bringing Star Wars Republic Commando to PlayStation 4 for the first time on April 6 and yes, we’ve included a platinum trophy.
It’s been a few years since the original release, so allow me to re-introduce you to Star Wars Republic Commando and Delta Squad.
Be tactical
In Star Wars Republic Commando, you have your trusty blaster rifle and squad of elite clone troopers by your side. The game adds a tactical layer to the first person shooter genre with squad controls.
You will play as the leader of Delta Squad RC-1138, AKA Delta Three-Eight, AKA “Boss”, but no clone is alone. The squad is your weapon, especially when calling shots with maneuvers. Of course, your teammates can maintain their formation and execute tactics on their own, but the key to success is leading your team to victory.
These maneuvers include commands to perform special tasks such as demolish or breach doors, search and destroy commands, and calls for your squad to form behind you. Your squad can even revive you when you fall in battle!
A Superfan’s delight
You may not have played Star Wars Republic Commando, but you might recognize Delta Squad from the Star Wars: The Clone Wars TV show in the episode “Witches From the Mist”. Fun fact: This is the first appearance of a clone commando unit in this series!
Of course, that’s not the only connection between Delta Squad and the Star Wars universe as a whole. Boba Fett, Jango Fett, and intrepid Delta Squad Leader Delta Three-Eight were all voiced by Temuera Morrison, who recently reprized the role of Boba Fett in season two of The Mandalorian.
Same 2005 Classic, new modernized controls
At Aspyr, we respect the classics. We’ve done our best to faithfully recreate the original Star Wars Republic Commando vibe with some modern twists.
What worked in 2005 doesn’t translate perfectly into modern hardware. That’s why we’ve updated the controls to feel great on DualShock 4 and DualSense controllers (playable on PS5 via backward compatibility).
Of course, no port in Aspyr would be complete without new trophies to hunt. As you work your way through the game, you’ll earn trophies for everything from ending campaigns to defending droids. My favorite is Squeaky Clean, which you can earn by keeping your tactical visor (you guessed it) perfectly clean.
We are so happy to be able to bring Republic Commando to you on April 6th, so send greetings to Kamino!
