Elder Scrolls Online launches its new Blackwood expansion today, accompanied by a new trailer for the game that gives players an idea of what to expect.

The Elder Scrolls Online has been running a year-long adventure known as The Gates of Oblivion that began in March. The adventure will continue with The Elder Scrolls Online’s newest DLC, Blackwood.

For those unaware, The Gates of Oblivion is the new MMO story arc that features players battling Oblivion’s Prince of Destruction, Mehrunes Dagon. The event kicked off in March with the release of the game’s Flames of Ambition DLC which added a number of new dungeons that introduced Mehrunes Dagon and the threat they posed to all of Tamriel. Now Blackwood is ready to take the MMO to a whole new region and really begin the adventure story.

With Blackwood now available to all Elder Scrolls Online players, the game has released a trailer to showcase some of the story paces, areas, and gameplay that players can expect from the newest chapter of The Gates of Oblivion. The trailer sets a dramatic tone for the rise of Mehrunes Dagon and shows the scale of what players can expect from the chapter. It shows a couple of battles with sizable groups of what could be players or some of the new companions of Elder Scrolls Online.

The trailer also shows off some of the new locations and stunning views of Elder Scrolls Online. The Blackwood region is primarily covered in dense swamp that is teeming with life and fungi. But the Blackwood trailer also showcases some of the fiery landscapes of the Oblivion kingdom that players will venture to as well. Rivers of lava, fiery horizons, and a smoke-choked sky contrast with the misty swamps that are home to Blackwood life. However, players will have to jump in and play through Blackwood’s 30-hour campaign to see what the expansion has to offer.

Blackwood appears to be a great expansion for Elder Scrolls Online players, and his pivotal role in The Gates of Oblivion will likely make most MMO players not want to miss out. The expansion features many other additions such as new armor sets, a new add-on system, new world events from the Oblivion portal, and a host of new content for players to dive into. With Bethesda saying that Elder Scrolls Online is the most popular cross-platform MMO, hopefully many players will really enjoy the new Blackwood expansion.

Elder Scrolls Online and Blackwood are available now for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
