In this story-driven adventure set in the distant future, you play as a young sugar glider as he embarks on a perilous journey through the wilderness to save his family. Can you follow them through a world where disasters threaten the survival of all species on the planet?
Nature is your obstacle course
Do like the sugar gliders! You can explore on the ground and in the air. Slip through lush forests as you weave your way through the branches. Remember to dodge and roll over to avoid trouble!
Play a nature documentary
As you navigate this living and breathing world, your adventures will be told like your favorite nature documentaries. Our team has spent a lot of time researching various flora and fauna to ensure that all of the information shared by our narrator is accurate – learn about the plants and animals that inhabit each strange new ecosystem as you explore their diverse terrain.
Our narrative team consisted of our voice over artist, Andrew Robinson, and our writer, Cecily Walter. Cecily did a terrific job perfecting the tone of our narrator – who is himself a key player in Away’s overall story – and Andrew brought it to life with his natural instinct for voicing nature documentaries.
Never seen before photo mode
We’re excited to officially announce that Away will include Photo Mode! Freeze the sugar glider anywhere and move the camera around while the rest of the world continues in ambient movement.
Photography enthusiasts will be sure to be happy with the comprehensive settings, including depth of field sliders and filters, to ensure you get the perfect shot.
Play like other animals, including a praying mantis
As you travel the world you will come across many creatures; some friendly, others… not so much! In Away, you’ll have the chance to explore the world from a different perspective and play as some of these creatures and their unique abilities. Jump like a frog and surprise your prey with a long range tongue attack! Crawl like a beetle and infiltrate an abandoned structure to learn more about this strange new world. Even flies from tree to tree like a praying mantis! You can also play as a salamander, beetle, frog, spider, scorpion and many more.
Track down your prey and eat it too
Everyone must eat! A hungry sugar glider cannot soar and that’s when the hunt begins. Quietly stalk your prey behind the grass or set off on a chase to catch small animals and insects to replenish your energy.
Face formidable enemies
Sometimes the hunter becomes the hunted. This little glider will meet all kinds of predators. In the Coral Serpent Boss Battle, your swift actions will determine whether or not he makes it out alive.
It will be necessary to be fast. When this large enemy performs a long-range attack, you’ll have to dodge just at the right time to perform a counterattack while still stunned. If you manage to dodge its deadly attacks, you will exhaust and defeat this great predator.
The PS5 offers the most immersive experience
The PS5 version of the game supports our highest graphics setting, the Documentary Experience. It harnesses the awesome specs of the PS5 to bring out every detail of a world made to live and breathe and truly bring it to life.
