Legacies pose a heavy burden on the world of entertainment, whether it’s movies, books, or, as in this case, the world of video games. And the past can be a vital platform for increasing sales of a title depending on whether it’s based on a quality franchise, which is positive, but that name also carries a burden that puts weight on new development so that it exceeds. or at least the scope, previous deliveries.
Tacitly, this is what players undoubtedly expect in South Park: Snow Day, and the fault lies with the excellent previous opuses: South Park: The Stick of Truth and South Park; Fractured but Whole, which managed to blend the series’ self-confidence with simple graphics (like those in the series) and classic RPG elements that made it both deliveries were a no-waste playable delightsomething that was difficult to match in a third production, yes, but it wasn’t impossible.
Snow Day continues the chronology of the previous two parts and places the player for the third time in the role of the new inhabitant of South Park. Already at the beginning there is a reference to how the new character ended up surpassing in power and that is why on this occasion the rules of the game were changed, although unfortunately the rules were not the same. only to change.
Previous versions did a sort of compilation of season chapters immediately before the game’s release, but in this case This is only based on a specific episode from season 22 and that’s something that doesn’t become completely clear until halfway through the game, more or less.
As for the story, South Park is facing one of the worst snowstorms recorded in the city’s history, so on top of the various problems that appear in the Colorado city, classes are canceled and that means that Cartman, Kenny, Stan and Kyle will return with their capes, powers and other elements of this collective medieval fantasy that we have already seen on other occasions. Join me on this adventure of analyzing a game that left me with a bittersweet taste both as a fan of the series and as a lover of the two previous games.

Technical section
One of the things that I liked the most when I saw the first trailers for the game was the 3D section that it would have, and I want to say that the end result did not disappoint me at all, even if I’ve known it since For many, this change already marked the start of a series of bad decisions. Especially the style convinced me and I don’t think it ever took me away from that atmosphere that South Park surrounds you with, despite the bad memory of that disastrous Nintendo 64 title.
The previous paragraph is the only one in this section in which I will praise the game, although I will make the exception with the soundtrack, which I really liked, without fascinating me in the least. Now continuing on this same line, the enemies’ voices (still in English) are tedious and repetitive, the first few times they may make you smile, but when you play the second episode you need a brain transplant to try to forget. what you hear all the time.
Snow Day is, in my opinion, very poorly subtitled in Spanish. I am not referring by this to the quality of the place, which in my opinion is very good, but to what“Inclusive language” was used to avoid gender markings
Some may tell me that the option of translating “New Kid” as “Niñe Nueve” is somewhat ironic, but if so, it is also not a good thing because irony does not is not noticeable, and the concept of calling the “new” “new” is so abject” that it seems to acquire numerical nomenclature as if it were an android.
Gameplay
If you don’t know what the game is about and you are, like me when I started the analysis, in the train of the two previous games, I suggest you continue reading before buying the game outright. blind or because you are a fan of the band. While there are times when new developers decide to deviate from a certain formula with great success, the truth is that it was a formula for a reason, and Snow Day is a clear example that innovating too much sometimes has a negative charge.
In principle, the game radically moves away from RPG elements so characteristic of past tranches and decides to adopt a formula hacker and slash with dyes roguelike which, in my humble opinion, does not benefit him at all.
We will have at our disposal the possibility of choosing between 3 weapons for melee combat, 3 weapons for throwing projectiles of different calibers and up to two powers to equip simultaneously, which can come from jump improvements through anal gas or just some healing options. A carefully added element are the “fullería” cards. These cards can be purchased from him before and during missions, the same goes with weapon modifiers that Jimmy can sell in exchange for toilet paper, game currency, which is a sad reminder of how coveted this product was at the start of the pandemic, especially in countries that do not have a bidet.
Returning to the trick cards, these can be used in a limited way and modifications introduced by our own and by the enemies. can change the game constantly, which makes it interesting at times, but not completely. The abilities offered by these gadgets are very varied, such as the possibility of transforming the main character into a giant, summoning different types of allied monsters, creating a meteor shower, etc. The options change randomly throughout the levels and I think that’s the case. one of the rare successes that this third opus adds
The game was designed as an online cooperative which you can play with up to three friends, each with their own avatar and without playing the role of one of the characters from the animated comic. Although it is not absolutely necessary since you can play in groups alongside the AI, trust me, the experience with the the robots It’s really bad; not only because They do not have the ability to pull special techniques or something similar, but because they often don’t even deign to fight and become a kind of blow magnet, the only thing that will benefit the player is the ability to attack distracted enemies.
Duration
South Park Snow Day is short, very short, and I’m not exaggerating. The initial five levels with which the game arrives can be completed in a little over three hours and I’m being generousso I think if you plan to immerse yourself in a game for a long time, you might want to wait for the game to add more content, which I estimate it will do in a short time if it wants to appease . criticism from the community, at least from some of them.
conclusion
I really would have liked to come into this space with a sentence of emotion, satisfaction or happiness with Snow Day, but unfortunately that was not the case. Is this the worst game in the world? No, not even close, and that’s why the rating this review carries, but the truth is that it doesn’t even compare to previous editions and I think only the most die-hard South Park fans will like it a little, so, if you are part of this group, For 30 bucks it’s not a bad game.but I also hope that you don’t get your hopes up too much.
