Game of Thrones spin-offs for 2024 and 2025
Since 2019 and the end of the eighth season of Game of Thrones, HBO has been working on several spin-offs that will bring the universe created by George RR Martin to the small screen. The first of these to finally see the light of day is, of course, the prequel House of the Dragon. This series, which began in 2022, focuses on the Targaryen family’s conquest of the Seven Kingdoms 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones.
According to an announcement to shareholders from David Zaslav (head of Warner Bros. Discovery), another spin-off is currently in development with a release window of late 2025, i.e. between Season 2 and Season 3 of House of the Dragon. Written and produced by George RR Martin and Ira Parker, this series is based on the short stories “The Hedge Knight” (1998), “The Sworn Sword” (2003) and “The Mystery Knight” (2010), which were collected in a collection in 2015 called “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.” This title will be that of the HBO series.
The official synopsis of “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight”: “A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes roamed Westeros: a naive but courageous young knight, Ser Duncan the Great (aka Dunk), and his little squire, Egg. “In a time when the Targaryen line still held the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon had not yet faded from the memory of the living, great destinies, powerful enemies and dangerous deeds awaited all these unlikely and incomparable friends.”
