A great week for Star Wars fans with Disney’s announcement confirming that the new Star Wars movie Rogue Squadron will be directed by none other than Patty Jenkins, a director with a long history and several hits up her sleeve like Wonder woman
In case there are any doubts about the inspiration of the future film in the games, the director confirmed in an interview with IGN
We’re going to do something new based on games and books. There are a lot of good things that come out of it but it will also be a completely original story.
Star Wars Rogue Squadron and its inspirations
The Star Wars Rogue Squadron saga has three installments, although the first is the most classic to be released on more than one console (Nintendo 64 and PC) while Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader y Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike was the exclusive legacy of the Nintendo GameCube. The idea of the games arose from a level of the beloved Star Wars Shadow of the Empire and in turn served as the basis for recent Star Wars squadrons.
The books Jenkins refers to are the X-wing series, written by Michael A. Stackpole and Aaron Allstone, which is well respected by the community in the larger series universe.
Is the anguish of seeing this film killing you? To us too, but it seems that we will have to wait until 2023 to see the adventures of this squad of Republic fighters.
