Game news Mass Effect 2 – BioWare confirms that Jack must be pansexual
The secrets of BioWare studio design have been rife since the studio published the book Bioware: Stories and Secrets of 25 Years of Game Development. Now that artist Matt Rhodes shares the conceptual art of Revolver, the spiritual sequel to Jade Empire, with tragic fate, it is time that the former screenwriter confided in the house.
Indeed, Brian Kindregan, ex-BioWare screenwriter, spoke on the microphone The player to share what fans of the Mass Effect saga already knew deep down: Jack, the criminal we can see in the second work and by the way in the third episode of the saga, was originally pansexual.
It was actually very late in the game’s development that Jack’s romance turned into romance only for male / female couples. She was predominantly pansexual for most of the development of romance. Brian Kindregan, lead author of Jack’s story in Mass Effect 2
Selon Brian Kindregan, lThe late decisions regarding Jack’s sexual orientation were made so as not to rush the mainstream media, which was shocked by the sex scenes in the first Mass Effect. Scenes that Fox News pointed out when the first episode started. In the end, therefore, the only bisexual romance available in the game Mass Effect 2 was offered by the Asari breed (embodied by Liara T’Soni in Normandy), a breed that is considered mono-sex.
Mass Effect was criticized very heavily and unfairly by Fox News (…) in the USA. The Mass Effect 2 development team was a pretty progressive and open-minded team, but I think there were concerns on a fairly high level. If the first mass effect to have only one gay relationship was Liara – who technically wasn’t a gay relationship on paper because it was monogamous – (she managed to attract the lightning bolt), we feared repercussions. So we have to be a little more careful with Mass Effect 2. Brian Kindregan
That information was then confirmed by Courtenay Taylor, the actress who played Jack in Mass Effect 2. In fact, the latter insists that she always felt like she was playing a pansexual character.
It’s funny to me because I’ve always understood that she is pansexual. So I don’t know if it’s just something I derived from the figure or something she said might have been cut in the edit. I was surprised that feminine romance was not possible because I understood that. Courtenay Taylor, actor
In the same interview Brian Kindregan states that he didn’t necessarily agree with the studio’s decision, but that he understands why it was made. He also states that he understands the feedback from players who were surprised by the fact that, despite the various clues the developers left here and there, Jack was unable to develop a relationship with a girl.
I understand why. I would say that a lot of seeds were planted in the conversations that surely implied that she was pansexual – she once referred to being part of a thrupple (a love triangle) (…). The message was explicitly started to be sent that this is a pansexual character. Brian Kindregan
As a reminder, the Mass Effect saga is making its comeback with the Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, a compilation that brings the first trilogy together on the same cake. The latter will be available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X | in the first quarter of 2021 S be available.
