lost paradise, the new game of Polyamorous and Everything in it! Games, presents us with an uchronia where the Nazis did not lose the war and created their own “lost paradise”. We’ll have to take our protagonist Szymon through an underground bunker to uncover the story of his sole possession of an old photo of his recently deceased mother with a man. Join us in this analysis to find out if its story is worth discovering.
A simple graphic adventure
The story of Paradise Lost, as we mentioned before, begins with our protagonist Szymon entering an underground bunker to uncover the truth about his past. Shortly after the start of the adventure, we will “meet” Ewa, character that will help us move forward and guide us throughout the adventure.
We can sum up the playable section in one word: Exploration. The only thing we can do throughout the adventure is explore, press buttons, and read texts. And this is where the game’s first failure lies, since we won’t have puzzles or other graphical adventure mechanics, it doesn’t even reach that complexity. Our only action, let me stress this, is to move around and press the “A” button, the experience more like an interactive book than a real video game.
A technical section that meets only
In the graphic aspect, the video game only reaches that approved. While some settings and artistic designs are fine, we often find it too dark to be difficult to move around. Also, the game has virtually no configuration options, not even the brightness, so I’m not sure if this is an issue with my TV or the game. Finally, music in most of the game. does not exist, and only at certain times there is a slight melody, which does not accompany badly all.
By finishing the technical part, I found in the video game all the possible types of BUGs: slowdowns, crashes, graphic flickering, falling through the scene, textures that do not load … It is true that they do not ‘weren’t that many, but one problem in particular was for me: localization errors. For a game that relies almost exclusively on reading, I found a fair amount of text that was totally or partially untranslated.
Interesting but insufficient story
After all of the above, the video game is only interesting if its history turns out to be so. Some points have been very interesting to me. If you are a fan of works like The man in the castle You may be attracted to this, although I can’t finish recommending it either, because at times the story has been so slow it has been overwhelming.
Concluding Paradise Lost, more than a video game, is an interactive novel, through which we will advance in a straight line, and where our decisions have no impact. Well almost none, because to finish the game has several endings, but we will have to start it again if we want to choose another one. Once the game is finished which has only one save slot, it takes us back to the beginning by deleting the game. Although it barely took me 5 hours to complete it, nor because of the story, nor because of the accomplishments, I would replay it personally.
