The first season of The Witcher was very popular.
As part of Netflix's 2019 fourth quarter earnings report (PDF), the company shared some of its largest number of viewers in 2019.
That wizardOf course, this is one of Netflix's biggest highlights this year. According to the report, 76 million "families" watched the show four weeks before it aired, which makes it expected to be Netflix's largest single season premiere ever.
Netflix considers anyone who "choose to watch" a show for at least two minutes to be a viewer, which is how it filters out accidental clicks and regular browsing. Obviously, this does not mean that everyone will stick with it, but this is how the company comes to this figure.
Netflix was also impressed by how the Witcher made its debut when it affected popular culture, increased book sales, and made "The Witch Toss Your Coin" an overnight success. The success of the show also led to "Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" setting a new concurrent player record on Steam, far exceeding the performance at the time of release.
The second season of The Witcher will arrive sometime in 2021, and creator Lauren S. Hissrich is already teasing some ideas for continuing the story.
