The Covid-19 pandemic is repeatedly causing delays in game development, and the same fate has now overtaken the co-op action game Warhammer 40,000: Darktide.
The co-op shooter Warhammer 40,000: Darktide can probably best be compared with Left 4 Dead and for that reason alone stirs up high expectations among action fans. Unfortunately, this will last much longer, because the publication planned for this year will unfortunately not work anymore.
The development studio Fatshark has now officially confirmed that the release of Warhammer 40,000: Darktide will not take place until spring 2022. The Stockholm-based studio cites the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic as the background for the postponement.
You want to deliver the best possible game, says Fatshark CEO Marin Wahlund in a statement. This requires more time, also because game development is facing new challenges in times of a pandemic with a lot of home office & Co. The postponement is intended to direct the focus on the quality level as well as on other game systems that will be important for Darktide’s support in the coming years.
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is planned for PC and Xbox Series X / S. For the release, the co-op shooter will also be included in the Xbox Game Pass.
