The zombie-killing thief from Army of the Dead is back in the new Netflix prequel, Army of thieves. The trailer for the heist film was released on Sunday during the movie’s San Diego Comic-Con panel, where the cast revealed a few secrets about the project and some of their favorite moments.
Army of thieves follows a robbery by Ludwig Dieter (Matthias Schweighöfer), an expert on safe crackers and one of the most popular characters in the original film. This film was in production long before it was released Army of the Dead
Netflix has not yet released the teaser trailer on YouTube, but it starts at 10:24 p.m. in the official Comic-Con panel video:
Ludwig is recruited by Gwendoline in the trailer, game of Thrones‘Nathalie Emmanuel, for carrying out a massive heist with America’s new zombie outbreak as the perfect diversion. While the film is definitely set in the post-outbreak world, this trailer is definitely missing from the zombie section. It seems that this spin-off is more of a pure predatory film than a zombie-predatory hybrid like its predecessor.
Fortunately, there is no shortage of action in the trailer. There are shootings, armored personnel carriers and car chases for this thief team. And of course the trailer also contains a massive safe that Ludwig can crack.
But even if this movie doesn’t have any zombies, Zack Snyder’s hopes for a real sequel to the movie are still plausible.
“Schay [Hatten, co-writer] and I know exactly what happens next, “Snyder told Polygon in May,” and it is insane. “
Army of thieves should be streamed on Netflix in the fall.
