It’s almost a tradition. When a new console is released, it is instantly destroyed by some of its buyers. The purpose of this destruction is often to check the solidity of this machine. Unsurprisingly, the Nintendo Switch OLED was no exception. And the results aren’t particularly encouraging.
How resistant is the Nintendo Switch OLED to scratches? The YouTuber wanted to find out JerryRigEverything. In fact, the videographer subjected a Nintendo Switch OLED to a “durability test” right out of the box. And it seems that Nintendo’s new console is relatively prone to scratches.
According to him, the Nintendo Switch OLED has a screen protection level of 2/10. Significant scratches already appear in the first tests. In his opinion, this underscores the fact that the console’s glass pane is covered with a layer of plastic.
The good news in this story, according to YouTuber, is that these tests show the importance of not putting the OLED switch in risky situations. Avoid, for example, stowing the console in a pocket with coins or keys.
Surprisingly, the OLED switch does not like sharp objects and fire
According to Nintendo, the plastic film that covers the OLED screen on its device is designed to prevent shards of glass from spilling in the event of a major impact. Therefore, it is recommended that all console buyers purchase an additional screen protector.
To be aware of that JerryRigEverything went even further in his tests. In fact, the videographer also tested the fire resistance of the Nintendo Switch OLED screen. It appears that exposure to the flame of a lighter takes about 30 seconds to permanently damage the diodes. The YouTuber is still surprised that the plastic film on the screen withstood the flame.
Of course, the conditions for carrying out the test do not correspond to the actual conditions of use. However, they make it possible to identify weak points. And therefore to warn the players so that they take their precautions.
