The shortage of chips and the resulting delivery bottlenecks for graphics cards evidently arouse criminal desires. A whole truckload has now been stolen in the USA.
Graphics cards are currently a rare and expensive commodity and this apparently not only attracts scalpers, but also criminals. No wonder, since current cards are sold for more than double the retail price.
Apparently, some crooks in California also thought so and without further ado stole a whole truckload of NVIDIA graphics cards from EVGA, which were on their way from San Francisco to an EVGA distribution center. These are cards with retail prices between US $ 329.99 and US $ 1,999.99, which are now likely to be sold on other channels for double the price. Exactly how many cards were captured is not yet known.
Definitely annoying for people who were just planning to order a new graphics card, because this contingent is gone for now. EVGA has blocked the serial number of the cards accordingly, so that registration with EVGA would have the corresponding consequences (the acquisition of stolen property counts as a criminal offense), but this is not really useful anyway – the cards can of course also be operated without registration.
